At CAB Worldwide we have been a supplier of precision machining services for over 35 years. Our skills, which include casting and forging, were required when a customer in the mobile refuse collection industry asked us to design, engineer, model, and machine a lifting arm component known as an arm pivot bracket. To ensure proper rotation of the casting while machining, we needed a custom repeatable machining fixture, which we successfully designed and manufactured. Along with critical material requirements, the customer also specified strict dimensional tolerances on key design elements to ensure proper function of the component during operation. Working from 2D CAD drawings and using an ASTM A-487 GR 4A steel casting, we employed our vertical turning lathes, horizontal machining centers, and gantry lathes to manufacture this 6.218" long and 2.5" wide arm pivot bracket. Made to exacting tolerances of ±0.03", we then applied a normalized and tempered finish surfaced to a roughness average of 63Ra. 90-115 ksi tensile, 60 ksi yield, and MAX carbon 0.27 percent testing and inspection were performed during the manufacture of this heavy-duty bracket to certify its integrity. Although not used on this project, we also offer SPC quality control analysis (Cpk, etc.) and Gauge R&R studies. In only four days following our customer's release, we delivered 1,200 of these arm pivot brackets to Fort Payne, IN.
Our engineering skill and expertise in machine tool design and fixturing stands second to none. Contact CAB Worldwide to learn more about our custom precision machining services today.
